Cyprus is known as the island of sun with nearly 340 days of sun throughout the year.

Cyprus has a rich history and was once one of the major producers of silk, trading as far as the Middle East and Europe. Some of the older residents on the island still produce silk and there is a silk festival held every summer.

The Selimiye mosque located in Nicosia took 150 years to build and some parts date back to the 6^th century. There are also 500 year old Turkish baths on the island, the most of which is the Grand Turkish bath or Büyük Hamam, which as originally a 14^th century Latin church, but was changed into a working bathhouse by the Ottomans in the 16^th century.

The main language on the island is Turkish but most people speak English due to the large British expat community that has settled there. The island is fast becoming a popular destination with people from all over the world.
